New in this issue is the first of what is intended to be a series of ‘Meet the committee’ interviews. e featured interviewee is Jill House, a loyal and long-standing member of the Club and committee, and a singer of remarkable versatility. Other items include reviews of last season’s CMC concerts and of a seminar at the Institute of Musical Resear; articles on two of ’s anniversary composers, Riard Strauss (b.), who will be celebrated in a forthcoming CMC concert, and Andrzej Panufnik (b.); an introduction to the eighteenth-century composer omas Arne in the context of his own and later times; a note on the intriguing Swedish composer Franz Berwald; and an article ‘Composers on composers’ looking at some of the ways composers have paid homage to one another in their music. Welcome to the fourth issue of the Chamber Music Club’s Newsletter, a publication which I think is now well established and plays a valuable part in the life of the club. The subject-matter of this issue ranges widely, taking in the Elizabethan theatrical jig, the ‘London Piano School’ of the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and the music of a classic (or not so classic) science-ficti...
متن کاملReconstruction of gene regulatory networks under the finite state linear model.
We study the Finite State Linear Model (FSLM) for modelling gene regulatory networks proposed by A. Brazma and T. Schlitt in [4]. The model incorporates biologically intuitive gene regulatory mechanism similar to that in Boolean networks, and can describe also the continuous changes in protein levels. We consider several theoretical properties of this model; in particular we show that the probl...
متن کاملPlatelet function is modified by common sequence variation in megakaryocyte super enhancers
Linking non-coding genetic variants associated with the risk of diseases or disease-relevant traits to target genes is a crucial step to realize GWAS potential in the introduction of precision medicine. Here we set out to determine the mechanisms underpinning variant association with platelet quantitative traits using cell type-matched epigenomic data and promoter long-range interactions. We id...
متن کاملMorphological and genetic analysis of sympatric dace within the Rhinichthys cataractae species complex: a case of isolation lost
The Nooksack dace (Pisces: an undescribed putative taxon within Rhinichthys) and longnose dace (Rhinichthys cataractae) are two forms within the R. cataractae species complex that are distinguishable from one another by mitochondrial (mt) DNA divergence of 2–3%, as well as by subtle morphological differences. The two forms are found in allopatry in south-eastern British Columbia (BC), Canada, a...
متن کاملInfluence of Non-Native Trout on Native Non-Game Fish in Nebraska Headwater Streams
The direct predatory effects of introduced rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss on native longnose dace Rhinichthys cataractae were examined using a series of in-stream enclosures to determine if presence, density, or acclimation period of rainbow trout influenced survival of longnose dace. The number of longnose dace remaining in enclosures over the first 72 hours after rainbow trout introduction...
